Collectively advancing Ottawa as a vibrant, cultural capital city
A new generation of cultural planning has arrived. Ottawa is ready for it.
Ottawa’s cultural sector contributes greatly to our city’s economy and our enviable quality of life. The Ottawa Cultural Alliance works collaboratively to strategically address shared opportunities and challenges to further advance the sector’s success. Members of the Alliance have collaborated for many years to advance cultural priorities in the City of Ottawa.
In spring 2015, as we advocated for completion of A Renewed Action Plan for Arts, Heritage and Culture, the groups agreed to acknowledge this activity by giving our collaboration a formal name.
Culture animates our lives while generating significant social benefits and economic impact. Be it film or festivals, heritage talks and walks, rural museums, indigenous art, ethnocultural community celebrations, neighbourhood pop-up concerts, major cultural venues and more – culture plays a big role in our city.
A Liveable City for All: A New Cultural Roadmap for Ottawa 2019-22 maps out the path to an Ottawa where all citizens can take part in Ottawa’s culture scene.
The Ottawa Cultural Alliance facilitated the creation of this new community-driven Cultural Roadmap for 2019-2022 that recommends the strategy and priorities for culture. The results are also intended to inform Ottawa City Council’s planning for the next four years.
The Alliance comprises umbrella organizations that collectively serve as the voice for this vibrant sector, including: Arts Network Ottawa, Capital Heritage Connexion Patrimoine de la Capitale, Heritage Ottawa, Ottawa Arts Council, Ottawa Festivals and Ottawa Museum Network.
