Ottawa (Ontario) – Arts Network Ottawa’s annual ARTinis Halloween themed benefit soirée on Thursday, October 27, 2016, held at the Shenkman Arts Centre, was an enormous hit with over 300 in attendance to support the arts in Ottawa. Together, guests and Arts Network Ottawa’s 23 sponsors were able to exceed expectations, raising $42,000 to fund opportunities and resources for local artists and to support Ottawa’s vibrant arts community.
Costumed guests, Mayor Jim Watson, political leaders and supporters, and Ottawa’s business and arts community members were all treated with tricks, surprises and many sweet and savoury offerings during the evening. The MCs for the benefit soirée were recording Francophone Pop/ R&B Ottawa artist Abel Maxwell and Wendy Daniels of BOOM FM 97.9.
The ever-popular lounge experience of the Richcraft Theatre drew guests into that space for performances by Saturnfly and Tara Luz Danse on the Folkrum stage. The Richcraft Theatre black box space had a generous seating area, a Beaus Craft Beer bar, and bites by Cuisine & Passion. Guests could also see a unique glow in the dark design applied by make-up artists Lynne Éthier and Pina Cava on a model under special black light.
In the main event area, there was a free souvenir photo booth run by Title Sponsor Anchor Climate Care, a chance to co-create with visual artist Brenda Dunn, flair bartending by Ottawa Cocktails, a wine bar by Strewn, and food stations by Epicuriaand OCCO Kitchen.
“This is such a fun event for us to see our arts supporters come fully costumed and ready to contribute” says Lisa Cruickshank, president of Arts Network Ottawa. “We really owe a lot to the businesses, our sponsors, our group of dedicated volunteers, the Fundraising and Décor Committees and the countless hours our staff have put into this event to ensure its success.”
In addition to ticket sales and sponsorships, funds were raised by the sale of ‘Mystery Balloons’ and a marvelous silent auction with over 60 items donated by local businesses. The night ended with a bang as guests popped their purchased balloons to reveal a minimum of $50 value of prizes per balloon and winners of the best Halloween costumes were announced.
Arts Network Ottawa wishes to thank Title Sponsor Anchor Climate Care, presenting sponsors BOOM 99.7 FM and Ottawa Business Journal for their generous support to help promote the event, and special lighting and effects sponsor Mixed Media Group. We also want to thank platinum sponsor Pathway Hyundai and all the other ARTinis sponsors, donors and suppliers who made the event a success.
