Ottawa (Ontario) – Close to 200 guests were treated to a galaxy of culinary delights, cocktails, beverages and arts at Arts Network Ottawa’s sold out ARTinis Gala held on the two stages of the Shenkman Arts Centre. The 11th annual event held on Friday October 26, brought the Ottawa Arts Community together with re-elected Mayor Jim Watson, business leaders, sponsors and supporters. Their generosity raised over $38,000 to support services and programs run by Arts Network Ottawa that will benefit artists and arts groups across the Ottawa region.
Lisa Cruickshank President, of Arts Network Ottawa’s Board of Directors thanked all who support of the local arts scene in Ottawa – starting with the 20 Artinis Gala sponsors led by Pathway Hyundai and Terradare Solutions. She also took this opportunity to congratulate newly re-elected Mayor Jim Watson and the other municipal and provincial elected officials present, for supporting the arts.
Michael Curran, Publisher of the Ottawa Business Journal, spoke on behalf of the sponsors, stating how important the arts are to Ottawa in attracting and retaining talent, and underlining the key role played by Arts Network Ottawa over its 31-year history.
The guests started their intergalactic journey in the Richcraft theatre space station where they could sip on a signature cocktail crafted by North of 7, sample a variety of beverage tastings by Beau’s Brewery, Broadhead Brewing Company, Orléans Brewing Co., Stray Dog Brewing Company, Strewn Winery, Split Tree Cocktails and nosh on appetizers from St. Martha’s Brasserie d’Orleans,. There was a scavenger hunt, a scintillating silent auction, live sculpting by Christine Mockett, with the help of Shannon Whittle, and live cake decorating by Freddy Villatoro and Nicole Sanger of Made by Nikki Cakery Co. Ottawa’s award-winning Justin Duhaime Quartet kept all entertained with their sensational live music.
Guests then blasted off to the surface of the moon on the Harold Shenkman Hall stage to sit down for an expertly prepared three-course interstellar tasting by Chef Benjamin Vidmar of Meatings Catering taking centre stage. Aerial Antics performers dazzled guests as they dined, while the Justin Duhaime Quartet kept everyone’s toes tapping.
In addition to ticket sales and sponsorships, funds were raised with a twinkling silent auction with items donated by over 40 local businesses. A special thanks to our team of 30+ volunteers and to MC actor Julien Lévesque Ottawa School of Theatre who enthusiastically played the role of spaceship captain for the evening.
