Ottawa, ON, September 28, 2018: Arts Network Ottawa and ArtsBuild Ontario are pleased to announce the official launch of SpaceFinder Ottawa for artists, arts groups and creative spaces in the Ottawa Region on September 28, 2018 at their West Arts Open House. This coincides with SpaceFinder Canada’s national launch of the platform in French to renters on Culture Days weekend. SpaceFinder is also available in 10 other Canadian regions and 15 U.S. cities.
SpaceFinder Ottawa offers a large-scale solution for both artists and creative spaces in the community. Billed as an “Air BnB” for artists, SpaceFinder is an online tool for creatives to search for space based on their unique needs, while allowing venues to promote their unused, rentable spaces. And unlike other rental sites, users do not pay any booking or search fees to use SpaceFinder Ottawa.
“We are excited to be working with our partners to bring SpaceFinder Ottawa, a proven tool available across the country, to our local Ottawa creative community. Finding available and affordable spaces can be a frustrating task for artists and art groups and we are pleased to be able to make this important resource available to the community.” Kim Lymburner, Vice-President, Arts Network Ottawa
With over 70 local spaces listed, SpaceFinder Ottawa has over 150 search criteria including – location, price, amenities and availability – all of which aim to help artists find space that fits their needs. SpaceFinder is also open to anyone in the community looking for venues, for purposes such as meetings, workshops, readings, rehearsals, performances… just to name a few uses!
Created by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization based in New York, SpaceFinder is a first-of-its-kind online service that enables venues to market their spaces by creating listings with photos, rental rates and equipment, and uploading a digital calendar to the website. SpaceFinder Canada is funded in part by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Ottawa Arts Network has partnered with sponsor Terradare Solutions and ArtsBuild Ontario to bring this valuable tool to Ottawa to help address the need for local creative space solutions. ArtsBuild Ontario manages all the Spacefinder sites across Canada.
“We are very excited to launch SpaceFinder both in Ottawa and in French across Canada. SpaceFinder provides artists and cultural organizations with new possibilities for finding space – now in both French and English! We are thrilled to be partnering with local leader Arts Network Ottawa in bringing this tool to the creative community of Ottawa-Gatineau.” Patricia McKinna, Executive Director of ArtsBuild Ontario
“Terradare has been a supporter of the Arts Community and Arts Network Ottawa for several years. With the launch of SpaceFinder Ottawa, I feel the creative arts community connection to the business community is strengthened by this service being made available free of charge, for all. It is an honour and privilege to support the launch and major undertaking of providing this service – in both languages – and I believe it is sure to benefit many across the Ottawa region.” Nicole Darechuk, Terradare Solutions
“SpaceFinder is a much-needed resource that solves the problem of businesses, large or small, that need to either find, or that have, additional space to rent. Running a small co-operative art gallery, I often need, or am asked to suggest, spaces for workshops or classes. SpaceFinder does a great job of presenting so many spaces for rent in one easy to navigate website, it saves me valuable time in locating, or suggesting the right venue for the right task. As a platform for presenting available spaces for rent, SpaceFinder is unparalleled. Each listing puts you in direct contact with the venue and has, among other useful info, an online calendar of available dates, a map of its location and relevant surroundings; and important details about the space itself such as permitted usage, physical dimensions, equipment available for use, accessibility, and rates.” Richard Murphy, Chair, Board of Management, Kanata Civic Art Gallery
