EXHIBITION SPACE AT ARTS NETWORK OTTAWA
Interactions presents an exciting collection of unique abstract images. Roger Sutcliffe’s creations have been described as being rooted in abstract expressionism and colour-field painting. In the evolution of his artistic practice to abstraction, Roger has explored in his work design issues and relationships which stimulate or engage his academic curiosity. These include the interaction of three dimensional geometric shapes and lines in the planar space of the canvas, together with the effects of the choice of colour systems, and value and intensity relationships.
Roger is inspired in his artistic practice to explore innovative processes to create abstract works. This exhibition includes recent paintings that were created as a result of studying Max 7 visual programming language and multitrack video editing using the Da Vinci editing suite. These processes allowed him to generate complex shapes and colour interactions in space and provided inspiration and potential points of departure for his abstract paintings.
For the viewer whose daily life is filled with colour and shapes his creations explore the interactions of geometric shapes and lines in space with colour. They invite the viewer to interact with the images to solicit their own visual and emotional response.
