Recognition of Algonquin Territory
Arts Network Ottawa acknowledges that our offices are on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. The peoples of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, stewarding the land, the water and all that contributes to life in this region.
As an organization dedicated to advancing the arts community and incredible work that comes out of it, we affirm the importance of spending every day that we operate in reflection and acknowledgement of whose land our organization exists on. Today, many Indigenous communities continue to be denied the opportunity and resources to make and experience their traditional art on this land.
While we are grateful to be able to exist on this land, we acknowledge that it is only through a long history of colonialism . As a result, it is our responsibility as an organization to make justice and reconciliation a priority through our work.
As settlers on this land, Arts Network Ottawa seeks to amplify Indigenous voices and the experiences that they share to understand the truth of our past and how we can help in the journey of healing and justice. We encourage all to join us on this journey, starting with exploring and committing to the 94 calls to action brought forth by the Truth and Reconciliation report.
